The fans have waited, but they'll wait no more. Shinedown are officially back with the release of their new song, "Cut the Cord."

In a post at their Facebook page, vocalist Brent Smith states, "To our Fans, our Family...And in your truest moment of weakness...When everyone and everything has betrayed you and evil and hatred has wrapped itself around your mind, body and soul...This is the song that you play...This is the statement to the world that you will not give up, you will not give in, and you refuse to fail!!! Now is your time...to 'CUT THE CORD.' We love you...We have returned."

The hard-hitting song features some powerful beats from Barry Kerch, what sounds like gang backing vocals and some rather aggressive vocals and lyrics from Smith. Take a listen to the track in full above. If you like what you hear, the song is now available via iTunes. Smith also stated that an official video for the track will be coming soon.

The group is expected to release their fifth album later this summer via Atlantic Records. The disc follows on the heels of Amaryllis, which generated five Top 5 singles at rock radio, including the No. 1 songs "Bully" and "Unity." In an online Q&A held back in February, Smith suggested a late July / early August album release was likely.

Shinedown return to the road on July 9 in St. Petersburg, Fla. They'll be joined by Nothing More on a majority of their forthcoming shows as they play a mix of intimate theater shows and the occasional outdoor festival gigs. See all of their dates and get ticketing info here.
