The City of El Paso has announced new plans for playground renovations for seven park locations in El Paso. The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department is working to replace play equipment at seven city parks through Phase II of the city's replacement program. Overall, 17 city parks will receive new playgrounds.

The replacement program is going to implement needed maintenance to 15 playgrounds and build two new playgrounds in underserved communities. According to El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser,

“The City conducted a condition assessment of park amenities in late 2015, which revealed approximately 15 percent of playgrounds required work to raise them to ideal standard. City Council’s unprecedented action to fully fund the replacement of playgrounds will allow us to substantially catch up on deferred maintenance."

The expected completion date on playground improvements for Phase II is summer 2017. The project is broken into three phases, and phase two will involve the following parks:

Colonia Verde 5452 Ketchican
Irwin J. Lambka 6600 Cloudview
Mission Hills 3800 O’Keefe Dr.
Lincoln 4001 Durazno
Pueblo Viejo Roseway to Presa Place
Madeline 900 E Baltimore Dr.
Mundy 500 Porfirio Diaz St.

Each of these parks will be getting a brand new playground, wood fiber fall protection, accessible pathway and containment improvements, and in some cases, swings. Phase one of the playground completions is already underway and slated for an early spring 2017 completion, and phase 3 is scheduled for late summer 2017.
