Del Valle's top-of-the-town with 31-14 win at Canutillo

By Adrian Broaddus

Junior sensation quarterback Jake Fette threw for 234 passing yards and totaled three touchdowns, as Del Valle (3-0) cruised to a 31-14 win at Canutillo (3-1).

The Eagles had multiple opportunities to make this one close and put themselves in scoring situations. However, Del Valle turned Canutillo over on downs twice in Conquistador territory. The Conquistador defense also recorded an interception thanks to Abraham Garcia in the secondary.

Canutillo was led by running back Rene Huerta (77 rushing yards, 1 touchdown) and quarterback Matthew Gasca (170 passing, 1 TD, 1 INT). However, it wasn't enough to compete with the high-powered Del Valle offense in this key district 1-5A division II matchup.

Over the weekend, Fette announced his commitment to Arizona State. The Sun Devils were in town last week to watch Fette in person.

Trailing 55-48 with less than a minute to play, Eastwood’s backup quarterback Ethan Camacho faced a fourth-and-goal from the 12-yard line. The junior, who came in for injured starter Joseph Cox in the second quarter, hit wide receiver Fabian Penazola in the back of the end zone to get Eastwood to with a point.

Troopers’ head coach Julio Lopez decided to go for two and win the game, but Camacho’s pass was incomplete in the end zone and the Aztecs held on to go 4-0 on the season.

The total yards gained by both teams proves how close the game was; El Dorado had 517 and Eastwood had 515.

Next Friday, El Dorado begins District 1-5A (div. 1) action by hosting Bel Air at the SAC, while Eastwood is home in its District 1-6A opener against Socorro.

Franklin dominates Americas in emotional night, 51-17

By Sebastian Perez-Navarro

After the tragic loss of Franklin player Emmanuel Lopez in a car accident, the Americas Trailblazers and Cougars left their hearts out on the field.

The Cougars won Thursday night's competition, 51-17. Junior Ernie Powers took three touchdowns into the house from 57, 71 and 89 yards out. His fellow class of 2026 teammate Atreyu DeLaRiva decided to join the ground attack, netting two total touchdowns.

But the most important part of the night wasn’t the score. At the end both Franklin and Americas joined at midfield to pray in honor of their lost brother.

Hanks outlasts Horizon, 42-21

By Sebastian Perez-Navarro

Hanks’ homecoming theme was “Knights take on the universe,” and the week’s festivities ended with an out of world win.

The Knights beat the Scorpions on friday 42-21. Coach Scott Veliz put all of his offensive confidence on a sophomore led group. Jordan Morales led the way with three passing touchdowns, all of which were thrown to fellow sophomore Alex Robles, who went over 150 receiving yards. Both classes of 2026 players put on a more than impressive showing in their homecoming varsity debut. Austin Ducher was able to pound the rock, getting over the 100 yard hump and recording a late touchdown which all but sealed Hank’s homecoming fate.

The Scorpion improved after a shutout in their first district game against Chapin, as quarterback Julian Williams both rushed and passed for a touchdown. The receiver of said play was wideout, and kicker, Sergio Santana.

Riverside wrangles the Rockets, 56-34

 By Jorge Guajardo

The Riverside Rangers improved to 4-0 on the young season after handling the Irvin Rockets, 56-34, at Tony Shaw Field.

The Rangers were led offensively by Carlos Rojas III, who had an outstanding game rushing for 362 yards on 21 carries and scoring five touchdowns on the ground. Rojas III had several exciting plays, tallying four rushes of over 50 yards, the longest being a 69-yard run on a 3rd and 15 from Riverside's own 15-yard line.

Rojas also added 73 yards through the air on 6-13 passing and another three touchdowns. Riverside scored eight total touchdowns, and Rojas accounted for all of them.

It was a game of runs. While Riverside built an early 35-0 lead in the first half, Irvin showed life at the end of the first with a touchdown pass from Dallas Medina to Michael Salazar to get the Rockets on the board before the half.

Irvin quarterback Dallas Medina had a solid game, completing 17 passes on 30 attempts for 246 yards and two touchdowns. However, Riverside's large lead proved insurmountable even when Irvin crawled back into the game to make it 35-20 early in the third quarter.

Riverside will face the Bowie Bears next after a bye week and will look to build on their 4-0 start.

Irvin will also face the Bowie Bears in their next game. The Rockets are seeking to rebound from their loss to the Rangers.
