World Record Largemouth Bass Caught In Texas

Lea Anne Powell has made history in Texas by breaking the world record for the biggest largemouth bass ever caught in her line class. After months of anticipation, the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) confirmed her record, making O.H. Ivie Lake, the reservoir in Texas, America's Best Bass Lake for the first time ever.

Powell shared her journey to getting the record verified, detailing the intensive process that included paperwork, photos, documentation, and even mailing in a line sample. Despite the lengthy process, Powell’s determination paid off. “Squeaky wheel gets the grease,” she said, recounting her anxious calls to the board for updates.

The record-breaking bass weighed in at 12 pounds, 3 ounces, making it the biggest largemouth bass ever caught in the 12-pound line class. Caught on a 10-pound Seaguar Red Label line, Powell explained that this line tests up to 12 pounds, perfectly fitting the record requirements.

Powell's love for fishing started as a way to find peace after losing her parents in 2015. Invited by her friend Dalton Smith, a fishing guide at O.H. Ivie Lake, Powell didn’t expect to catch a world record on their trip. With the help of a Livescope, an underwater sonogram tool, they spotted and reeled in the massive fish.
