Girls Flag Football Is Coming To These Texas High Schools Soon!

It was just a few years ago when El Paso introduced the first female football league, The Sun City Stealth, and now the city will be bringing in another sport for young girls to be a part of: Girl’s Flag Football.

A new partnership between the El Paso Sports Commission, Zebra Sports, and the NFL is set to bring girls' flag football to local high schools.

Yep, you read that right – *girls' flag football* is finally happening, and it’s going to be huge, especially for those young girls who always wanted to learn the game of football.

All the major school districts will participate:

SISD, YISD, EPISD, Canutillo ISD, Clint ISD, and San Elizario ISD are all on board, along with private schools, with 40 teams expected to compete.

The format will be 7 vs. 7, with teams likely made up of 15-20 players. Here’s the kicker: according to NFL strategist Bobby Taylor, 50% of the players will be first-time athletes, making this an incredible opportunity for girls to try something new!

During a press conference on September 11, local leaders discussed how this program will open new doors for young women in El Paso. 

While the University Interscholastic League (UIL) hasn’t officially recognized girls' flag football yet, officials are optimistic, saying that they just need more school’s to jump on board!

In the meantime, El Paso is gearing up for its first girls' flag football tournament next spring, with a full team tournament planned for May 19-23, 2025. 

The NFL is even lending a hand with a donation, though the exact amount remains under wraps.
