The hike on Good Friday to the 29-foot statue of Christ on the cross that sits atop Mt. Cristo Rey in Sunland Park, New Mexico is a go.

And this year, El Paso’s faithful will be allowed to make the climb on Holy Saturday as well.

Good Friday Hike

Those who wish to make the trek on Friday, April 7, to give thanks, pray, or as a show of faith can start up the mountain beginning at 7 a.m. The trail will stay open until 3 p.m.

The Mt. Cristo Rey Restoration Committee will have volunteers on site providing security and guidance stationed along the trail, and first aid will be available. However, there will not be a clergy-led procession or a mass at the top of the mountain according to organizers.

The roughly 5-mile round-trip hike is considered easy to moderate, and suitable for all ages. No pets allowed.

For those who can't make it on Good Friday, the trail will also be open on Holy Saturday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
