Texas UPS Driver Crashes Truck After Passing Out at Wheel

A North Texas UPS driver is lucky to be alive after he crashed the delivery truck he was driving.

According to various reports, the driver of the truck passed out while at the wheel due to heat exhaustion.

The scary incident was all caught on camera by another driver as the truck went off the road and ended up stopping in trees alongside the highway in Texas.

The UPS driver's union says that the driver overheated while commuting to assist other drivers in another city. The driver began to vomit and felt ill while driving, however, the union says a manager told the driver to bring the truck back to the facility, knowing he was ill.

The driver's union said that the manager should have advised the driver to pull over and called 911 to assist the driver who was sick.

The driver was taken to the hospital and is now recovering at home.

According to CBS News, UPS spends $400 million annually on protecting its drivers from heat. Still, many of the trucks are not properly equipped with air conditioning.

Teamsters Local 767 say that they hope to sit down with UPS soon and address what can be done to protect their employees during these hot summer months. Their mission is to avoid what you'll see below.

In another story, 37-year-old Luis Grimaldo passed away last week in Central Texas while working for UPS. Colleagues allege his death was a result of extreme temperatures, but the company says that there was "no indication of heat stress".
