Health Warning: Recalled Cantaloupe Found in Texas—Dispose Immediately!

One of the great fruits to enjoy is cantaloupe.  Many people in Texas love to take a whole cantaloupe, scrape out the seeds, cut it into wedges, throw it on a plate, cover it in salt and pepper, and eat it.  Cantaloupe is a refreshing treat.

However, if you purchased a cantaloupe in mid-August, you'll want to check your fridge or freezer for this particular brand.

Kandy Cantaloupe

Eagle Produce LLC in Scottsdale, Arizona has issued a recall on 224 cases of whole cantaloupe. They are issuing the recall because this cantaloupe could be contaminated with Salmonella.  The recall is for Kandy Whole Cantaloupe, UPC 4050, Lot #846468.

According to the CDC, Salmonella is a type of bacteria that makes people sick.

Symptoms of Salmonella are:

• Diarrhea
• Fever
• Stomach cramps

Most symptoms of Salmonella infection will start 6 hours to six days after consuming a product infected with Salmonella.   It can last anywhere from 4-7 days.  Some may not develop symptoms until weeks after consuming the infected food.

When Was the Cantaloupe Sold and Where?

The Kandy Whole Cantaloupe was distributed between August 13th - 17th.  These cantaloupes were distributed in Texas, Missouri, Ohio, and Virginia and were sold in various supermarkets.

No cases of Salmonella have been reported after consuming this cantaloupe. The Salmonella was found by routine sample testing.

What if I purchased the Cantaloupe?
