FUN MERGER: Two Texas Waterparks Are Now Owned By Six Flags
A Huge Merger Between Two Of The Nation's Biggest Theme Park Companies Is About To Be Completed.
We told you a few months ago about a potential blockbuster merger that was in the works between Texas based Six Flags and Cedar Fair that would combine both companies under the Six Flags banner.
But the Department of Justice put the merger on hold due to "anti-trust" concerns and requests for more information. After completing the DOJ's request, the deal is officially back on.
Six Flags announced Tuesday, June 18 that its merger with Cedar Fair, will be completed on July 1, 2024.
Six Flags and Cedar Fair announced their plans to merge in November, a deal that both companies said could be worth $8 billion along with the companies' debt. Cedar Fair would own 51.2% of shares while Six Flags would hold on to the rest.
Six Flags operates 27 amusement parks including Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Cedar Fair operates 17 amusement parks and 11 resorts including both Schlitterbahn parks in New Braunfels and Galveston.
The parks will combine into one company named Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
When the merger is completed, Six Flags will control 4 parks in Texas but their headquarters in Texas would shut down and move to Charlotte, North Carolina while maintaining the Six Flags name.
So get ready for "Six Flags Over Schlitterbahn" or "Six Flags Schlitterbahn" in the near future as a new era of theme and amusement park fun prepares to take shape all across the country.
