Non-Texans have a weird and odd imagination of what it's like to be a Texan.

It's not just non-Texans with these perceptions, but movie directors, ad agencies, and those who want to portray an image of Texas often get it wrong.

No,

  • All Texans do not have hundred-acre ranches.
  • All Texans do not wear cowboy hats.
  • All Texans do not ride horses.

However,

  • Millions of Texans do wear cowboy boots.
  • Millions of Texans do wear buckles.
  • Millions of Texans do drive pickup trucks.

And yes, there are a few Texans that do have an accent of some kind. Ok, probably millions!

It's funny when you go to visit another part of the US or a foreign country and the locals there find out you're from Texas, they usually assume one of those things listed above, along with several others, are true about you.

Personally, I drive a pickup truck, and I could have a slight accent, but that's about where the stereotypical Texan ends with me!

True Texans know those stereotypes are the farthest thing from the truth!

There was a time when I lived in Portland, OR, for about a year and a half, and I stuck out because people there just knew I wasn't from the Pacific Northwest.

It seemed that a lot of people that I interacted with while living there thought that since I was from Texas, I automatically had several of the things on the list below, and that's simply not true. From their assumptions, I give you the list of things not every native Texan owns.

A List Of Things Not Every Native Texan Owns

While many people around the world believe all Texans own all these things, very few actually do!

I am proud to be a Texan.

Our pride, reputation, and love for our state and its flag precedes us wherever we go. However, that reputation has a twisted view from those who are outside looking in on us.

All you have to do is turn on the TV and when a sports player, game show contestant, or a restaurant is featured on the show, the producers of the program or the host of the show usually play up that fact to the fullest extent by placing them in a ranch with longhorn cattle in the field with a pumpjack in the distance while decked out in jeans, button-down shirt, huge belt buckle and a cowboy hat.

That's simply not the case! Try again y'all!
