Sure the major cities in Texas get a lot of the love. Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Texas has a little bit of everything when it comes to planning a trip. If you make the road trip down to southern Texas, you can even enjoy some nice beach scenes. According to a survey from Travel + Leisure, here are the best.
9. Boca Chica Beach
What's interesting about this beach in Texas is you can actually see rockets launch here. Boca Chica Beach is home to a Space X launch site. If space exploration is not your thing, the area also offers swimming, camping, birding, surfing, and fishing.
8. Surfside Beach
Surf culture is definitely not what comes to mind when you think of Texas, but don't tell the people of Surfside Beach that. Obviously consistent waves are key for surfing and this part of Texas has some of the best. Apparently it also has a very active crabbing pier to get some fresh seafood from.
7. Port Isabel
A big part of this town is the historic lighthouse, which sits dead center in the middle of town. This town also offers dolphin watching if that is your sort of thing. Fishing is also a big activity to take part in with many different charters available.
6. Rockport
Rockport is known for having some of the cleanest beaches in Texas. So if you want a more relaxing beach experience, apparently this is the place for you.
5. Jamaica Beach
Here you thought you needed a passport for Jamaica, but Jamaica Beach, Texas is a very small strip of beach. Just under one mile long, what folks love about this beach town is the canals that go in between the homes in the area. 4. North Padre Island
Now we're starting to get to some of the bigger names that many will recognize in Texas. Don't worry, the other Padre Island is still to come. However, if you want to deal with less crowds and still about the same amenities as South Padre Island. A lot folks recommend checking out North Padre Island as well.
3. Port Aransas
Port Aransas has something for everybody, but if you're a thrill seeker. The town does offer skydiving. So getting some views of the beach while falling thousands of feet sounds like fun, go check it out.
2. Galveston
When I picture a beach town in my head. Something like Galveston comes to mind. I love a good pier you can walk on with plenty of those fair rides. If you have never experienced a beach environment like this, it's one of the best. Don't tell Charles Barkley that though.
1. South Padre Island
Well I did spoil it earlier, so you knew it was coming. South Padre Island takes the top spot for best Texas beach town. Be prepared for this placed to be SWARMED during spring break for college kids. Besides March, it's pretty laid back the rest of the year.
