You might think this is a ludicrous idea, but it's based on real information.

The Complaints

I'm going to admit that I'm part of several groups that tend to expose the worst in  anti-Halloween propaganda. I guess you can't have angels, without having some boogiemen somewhere in the picture. Texas is firmly part of the bible belt, so it's not that far of a reach at all to expect a greater movement to ban Halloween.

The Reality

Halloween was originally a lot close to the celebration of Dias De Los Muertos, it was a day to remember the dead, especially saints and martyrs. As time moved on, Halloween became a celebration of freedom, horror, and Fall in general. No where in that did it say, celebration of dark forces, demons, devils, or anything of that nature. Of course a lot of those things are part of the Halloween picture, because those things are scary.

The Memories

Halloween has given me some of the best memories of my life, from being a kid excited to run wild across the neighborhood getting candy to being an adult who co-owns two haunted house theme parks.  I will also go on record as saying it's not just the décor, fantasy, and fun of it all, a large part of it is because many of us think of it as an escape from church-lady mindset that is so prevalent in these parts.

The Relief

Think of the year as a pressure cooker. All year long we build up pressure. We try to conform and be the person other people expect us to be. During Halloween, especially on Halloween night we get to be who we want to be, or at least someone else for just a short time. You're no longer the guy who changes tires, you're now Zorro. You're no longer a secretary, you're a witch who doesn't have to put up with office b.s.

In Conclusion

I hope I've explained well-enough that Halloween isn't' a threat to, or even anti-religion. It is not embracing actual dark forces but dressing them up in way in which they aren't a real threat. There is nothing in the bible about Halloween or dressing up. That's zip! Some will try to extrapolate talk of "evil" in the bible and try to apply it to Halloween. Sorry, you can't convince me that a kid dressing up as a Ninja Turtle is evil.  The real boogeyman in Halloween is the people who would try to take this harmless holiday away from you.
