ADOT Wants You To Help Make Driving More Fun
Driving long distance is never fun. No matter how many songs you cue up for karaoke, there's going to be a moment two hours in where you realize you still have four more to go and it will break you.
Roadways aren't built for our entertainment, obviously, but they can also be so mind numbingly boring that driving even the shortest distances can become a chore.
The Arizona Department of Transportation wants to flip that script.
ADOT Highway Sign Contest
Since 2015, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has held a yearly contest for residents across the state to come together and submit new ideas for road signs. These are typically witty, funny, and most of all, informative, meant to engage people more than just "Don't Text and Drive" or something.
It was feared that the fan-favorite contest would come to an end in January, when the federal highway Administration recommended against humorous or creative messaging. Luckily, this was just a recommendation, and ADOT has made it clear that until they are told to stop, they will continue the tradition.
How to Submit
If you're interested in putting your wordplay to the test, you're recommended to submit your ideas! There are only four rules you need to follow to be considered:
- 3 lines, 18 characters per line
- Hashtags, phone numbers, and websites are banned
- No emojis
- And lastly, it must relate to traffic safety!
ADOT recommends using the ampersand (&) to cut down on characters used. Give it your best shot, and thousands of people could see your work!
You can submit your ideas to azdot.gov/SignContest
