Oddly enough, I've written several Iron Maiden blogs lately. Todays is a sad one.

Maiden drummer Clive Burr passed away.  Clive was with Maiden in the beginning, playing on the first 3 discs; Iron Maiden, Killers and the classic Number Of The Beast.

A statement from Iron Maiden read:

We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home."

Maidens current drummer Nicko McBrain (Clives replacement) recently shot the pilot for a story about rockers who golf.  I posted yesterday about Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris finally touring with his side project British Lion.  (Yesterday was also Harris' birthday ... Clive celebrated his last birthday a few days ago.)

I got to see Clive with Maiden once and he was incredible.  He inspired a legion of drummers and his place in rock and metal history is more than secure ... he will never be forgotten.
