Foo Fighters Invite Fan Onstage for ‘Big Me’ Performance in Toronto
Foo Fighters are currently out on the road supporting their Sonic Highways album. Dave Grohl’s broken leg hasn’t slowed down their tour one bit; in fact it has created an urgency and intimacy to their live performances. At a recent gig in Toronto, Grohl invited a fan onstage to play drums on ‘Big Me.’ Watch the video in the player above.
Anthony Bifolchi attended the Toronto show with a sign that read, “It’s my birthday, can I play drums?” The 18-year-old fan’s birthday wish came true, when Grohl spotted the sign and invited him up onstage. As Bifolchi climbed up onstage, Grohl, from his stately throne quipped, "If you suck on the drums, I will personally tar and feather your ass backstage."
When Bifolchi hopped behind the drum kit, he asked if they could play “Best of You.” Grohl dismissed the request saying, "That's the last one we're gonna play tonight, ding dong!" He then added, they were going to play "Big Me" and warned the young drummer, "It's the easiest one. If you f--k this up, you're gonna look like a total f--king asshole."
Bifolchi held his own, despite Grohl’s threats, and did justice to the song although he did attempt to bring the song to a close a bit early. He made up for it with a nice drum fill to end “Big Me.” After he ran around the stage and hugged each member of the band, as Grohl called him a “stalker,” Bifolchi climbed down and went back to his spot in the front row of the audience.
Back on June 12, Dave Grohl broke his leg during a show in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was forced to cancel some Europe dates, but have honored their U.S. dates including their 20th anniversary homecoming concert at RFK Stadium, where Grohl unveiled his guitar throne complete with lights and speakers.
The Foos will kick off a two-night stand at Citi Field in Flushing, New York, tomorrow (July 15) and Thursday (July 16), before another two shows at Fenway Park in Boston on Saturday and Sunday (June 18 and 19). Check out all their tour dates here.
