Be careful how you pass emergency vehicles folks, unless you want a ticket.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is watching for drivers who don't slow down, or move over, when passing emergency vehicles stopped by the roadside. Operation: MOVE, ("move over vehicle eforcement" ... Honestly, who comes up with these names?) started Monday and continues through April 14th. According to the EP Times:

Texas law requires drivers to move over a lane, if possible, or slow down 20 mph below the speed limit when passing a vehicle with flashing emergency lights that is stopped on the side of the road. The law applies to police and fire vehicles, ambulances and tow trucks.

Monday alone, Sheriff's issued 17 tickets, gave 9 written warnings and 11 verbal warnings. Fines can be as much as $200.00 so, be careful near stopped emergency vehicles!
