The exhibition games were meant to raise interest in the sport of hockey both here in the United States and Mexico. Now, they have an even deeper meaning.

The exhibition game between the El Paso Rhinos and the Mexican National Team was arranged long ago, way before the August 3rd shootings in El Paso. Being that the Rhinos play right next to the border and to a huge Hispanic population, it seemed a natural way to bring the hockey culture in both countries together. Now, the game has taken on a special meaning as a way to honor the victims of the Wal-Mart shooting. People who came from both sides of the Border.

A special ceremony will take place during the game to honor the victims and the El Paso Rhinos have pledged $10,000 to the El Paso Community Foundation which will go to aid the victims. The teams hope the games will unite the international hockey communities, as well as promote healing and mutual respect.

The games are Saturday night, (9/28), at 7:00 pm and Sunday afternoon, (4/29), at 4:30 pm. Both games take place at the El Paso County Events Center, next to the Coliseum at 4100 E. Paisano.
