As the controversy of police and policing continue to be a hot topic in our mainstream media, one man has decided to start a social media movement to show his appreciation for law enforcement. This display of backup for police is now making its way to El Paso.

The Safe Harbor Initiative:To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate...

"The Safe Harbor Initiative" was started back on Sept. 5, 2015, by Anthony Welichko as a response to the "Black Live Matter" movement. During a time when many people think society is at war with the police, Anthony decided to show his support just by painting a blue line on the curb outside his home.

This blue line is supposed to notify patrolling cops there is backup available for them in that neighborhood. The backup for these police are the residents within that neighborhood, which could be a whole new problem waiting to happen. The only problem with choice of color according to Snopes is that this blue line symbol is already in use by water operators to recognize work sites and important structural information in Bozeman, Montana.

According to CBS4Local, West El Paso resident Michael Salloum is showing his support by painting a blue line on his curb, "It just symbolizes that we do appreciate the cops and what they do for us in keeping us safe." Not sure if this is an effective way to show support but at least it's another movement starting the discussion on policing in America.
