Some of you might remember this guy's name from the 80's, when the guitar shred boom really began in a big way. Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen really opened the door for a lot of guys to get known widely for instrumental music.

One of the guys that I've always liked, and he's still going strong now, is Tony MacAlpine. He was putting out stuff that was different, since he's unbelieveable on guitar AND keyboards. He's been in Steve Vai's band for several years as well, and went on tour last year with Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian.

I remember going to see this guy at Sa-So's in the northeast in the early 90's...the sound was so bad, mostly dominated by the drummer, but Tony still shredded like a maniac!

If you don't have his album Premonition, you should check it out, and it even features keyboard monster Jens Johannson on a couple of songs. You can't forget some of the early stuff, like Edge of Insanity, either.

All this week will be Tony's week for amazing shred...be on the lookout for more videos all week!
