Worm-Hole – El Paso’s Best Local Rock Profile

Worm-Hole

Who are all the members of your band, and what do they play?

Worm-Hole
Facebook

Travis Manning – Guitar/Vox
John Geddes – Bass/Vox
Michael Portillo – Drums

When did the band get together, and how?

The band was formed in early 2006 by long time friends (and ex-band mates in the band “Roadkill”) Travis and John Geddes. Over the course of the band’s existence they have been through many members including a couple of Lead Guitarists before going to a three piece in 2009, and 5 drummers (and tons of auditions) before finding the latest addition to the Worm-Hole family, drummer Michael Portillo in April of 2011.

How would you describe your music to someone?

We have a hard time describing our sound.  We’ve been called Heavy Stoner Rock with 70′s overtones. Similar to Black Sabbath,  Led Zeppelin, Sound Garden, Deep Purple (or that’s what we’ve been told anyways).

Who are some of the bands that influence your music?

All of them…in some way. It’s hard not to pick up inspiration from everything you listen to..even if it subliminal. But the obvious inspirations are  Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, anything Mike Patton, and so many more.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

We recently played at Speaking Rock Casino and it was hands down the best sound system, stage, sound guy (hey Jimmy) , and lighting set up we’ve ever played on/with! We loved it! But our favorite shows have to be KLAQ Loco-Fest 2008 at Cohen Stadium w TOAD, and Street-Fest 2009 with Trapped and Candlebox.

Are you currently signed to any kind of label or management?

We have our own indie label and recording studio called Nasty Cactus Music and Nasty Cactus Studio respectively. We do all of our own management, booking, etc.

What other bands have your members been/are in?

Travis Manning – New Mexican Erection, The Hadron Collider,  After The Fall, Dirty Clydes, Road Kill, Touch of Strange
John Geddes – Harmonic Convergence, Road Kill
Michael Portillo – Laquerhead

What other local bands would you recommend people check out?

ALL OF THEM!! But some of my favorites: Psykryptyka (Las Cruces), Suicide Romance (EP), For All The Enemies (EP), Beyond The Ash (LC), Bodystacker (LC), The Third Edge (EP), Hank of the Destruction Moose (EP), CFHP (EP), The Sixth (EP), Years of Cold (EP), Casual Fridays (LC), Dark Aria (EP), CW Ayon – One Man Band (LC)
