The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest joke in music. Seriously. There are bands and musicians who should have been in a long time ago, and are eligible, but aren't inducted, so the hall can drag in disco and R&B musicians or relative unknowns. If the artist has never worked under the Rock and Roll banner, why should they be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Here's this year's joke inductee: Donna Summer. Is there anyone on the planet that mistakes what she did musically as rock? Excepting the hall committee, of course.

There are a lot of musicians who are great at what they do/did, that aren't rock and roll, who are in the hall. Here are a few:

  • Aretha Franklin (great, but not rock)
  • Smokey Robinson
  • Sly and the Family Stone
  • Gladys Knight and the Pips
  • Parliament-Funkadelic
  • Michael Jackson (Has he been renamed the King of Rock? I don't think so)
  • Herb Alpert
  • Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
  • Madonna (Seriously, how the F@#% does Madonna get in at all, let alone before Deep Purple or Rush or...but that's the next part.)

How is it Jimi Hendrix didn't get in the hall until the SEVENTH FREAKING YEAR? They're saying Hank Ballard and Eddie Cochran were MORE influential and important that Jimi Hendrix?

Here's a list of some of the bands that the Hall of Shame has ignored (try not to get too mad...okay, feel free, I'm kind of pissed about it):

  • Deep Purple
  • KISS
  • Jethro Tull
  • MC5
  • Judas Pries
  • Iron Maiden
  • Peter Gabriel
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan
  • Dick Dale
  • T. Rex
  • Yes
  • The Steve Miller Band
  • Motorhead
  • The Moody Blues
  • King Crimson
  • The Doobie Brothers
  • The Cars
  • Procol Harum
  • Steppenwolf
  • Emerson, Lake and Palmer
  • Journey
  • Pat Benatar
  • Pantera
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Bad Company
  • Boston
  • Blue Oyster Cult
  • Supertramp
  • Black Flag
  • Scorpions
  • Meat Loaf
  • Anthrax
  • Megadeth
  • Styx
  • Slayer
  • Faith No More
  • The Runaways
  • Foreigner
  • Phil Collins
  • Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
  • Grand Funk Railroad
  • Joe Walsh
  • REO Speedwagon
  • Ted Nugent
  • George Thorogood
  • Mountain
  • Robert Plant
  • BTO
  • Misfits
  • Kansas
  • Uriah Heep

You get the idea. There are hundreds more deserving bands and musicians out there that actually fall under the umbrella of "Rock and Roll' more than several of those already inducted.

My point?

Change the name of the damn thing. Just call it anything else, but don't make it sound like it's something for people who like rock music.
