ESPN Sports has called it the "Toughest Two Minutes In Sports." See for yourself at the annual Kip Hall Memorial Combat Challenge this weekend.

The El Paso Fire Department Training Academy is hosting the local Firefighter Combat Challenge this weekend. On Saturday starting at 9 a.m., you can see what ESPN Sports called the "toughest two minutes in sports."

The Combat Challenge is a tough, head-to-head competition designed to stimulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting. Wearing full gear and breathing apparatus, local firefighters will perform a series of five tasks: climbing a five story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb dummy in a race against themselves, their opponents and the clock.

Kip Hall is the El Paso firefighter honored at our local competition. Hall also called it the "meat and potatoes of firefighting." Hall served in the U.S. Army and then was a member of the El Paso Fire Department for 9 years until his untimely death in 2007. Kip Hall also  competed in the combat challenge from 1998 to 2007. City Council approved naming a park in east El Paso in his honor. Proceeds from the combat challenge will go towards purchasing signage for the park.

The Combat Challenge not only happens right here in El Paso, but also fire departments from all over the United States, Canada, and now the world with countries like New Zealand, Germany, Argentina, Chile and more.

There will be various teams from fire departments all over the region. The Kip Hall Combat Challenge will be held at the El Paso Fire Department Training Academy at 6800 Delta. The event will be this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
