The Border West Expressway project has been progressing and is currently on track and on time. Find out a progress update here.

The Border West Expressway has been a headache for many people on the Westside of El Paso, but it looks like after many headaches and frustrations there has been great progress.

Construction crews have been working tirelessly to keep the project on schedule in Work Area 2. Work Area 2 is the Paisano Drive/ Old CEMEX area.

Here is a list of complete work for Work Area 2:

  • Existing Paisano Drive (US 85) between Executive Center Boulevard and Racetrack Drive is 100% demolished
  • Existing McNutt Road bridge demolition complete
  • Underground utilities (storm drain, water and sewer) 85% complete
  • Regrading and embankment of Paisano Drive (US 85) has commenced
  • Bridge substructure work in the Racetrack Drive area complete
  • Retaining walls work at Racetrack Drive have commenced
  • Five of eight retaining walls for the project within the CEMEX boundaries are complete; remaining three are 30% complete
  • Half a million cubic yard of embankment in the CEMEX area have been completed; 90% complete

Here is the upcoming work that will be happening in Work Area 2:

  • Demolition of Rexcel building
  • Begin the bridge substructure work for the new bridges that cross over the BNSF tracks and McNutt Road
  • Begin substantial retaining wall work supporting the new bridge structure over the BNSF tracks
  • Initiate asphalt and concrete paving activities on Paisano Drive (US 85)
  • Begin construction of the Paisano Drive (US 85)/Doniphan Road intersection
  • Installation of high mast lighting on Paisano Drive (US 85)
  • Open McNutt Road access to New Mexico (early 2017)
  • Continue elevated bridge construction (columns, caps, beams) of bridges at Racetrack Drive
  • Complete the waterline tie-ins, crossover and activation of newly installed waterlines
