A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter and its crew are safely on the ground in Laredo, Texas after reportedly being fired on from the Mexican side of the border.

Border Patrol officials say the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in the Texas border city Friday evening.  No one in the chopper was injured and officials are not sure yet if the gunfire struck the aircraft.  It was flying over an area that's well known for narcotics smuggling and illegal border crossings.

It's believed the gunfire apparently came from the Mexican side of the border. No word has been released from Mexican Authorities. The FBI and Texas Rangers remain on the scene investigating.
