Texas Woman Competes At Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest

A south Texas woman had an opportunity of a lifetime this past Fourth of July weekend. That's because she got a chance to compete at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island in New York.

Kassie Zapata competed in a qualifier back in March in San Antonio, Texas. The UTRGV ate 11 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Kassie is studying to become a math teacher. But, she also wants to coach young athletes and I'm not sure if it's coaching them in competitive eating.

Kassie ended up losing the competition to Miki Sudo, the champ ate 38 1/2 hot dogs in ten minutes. When asked if she had a strategy going into the contest she said,'This time around, I still didn’t train. I’m just eating a lot to make sure that I never get full, because I never get full.'
