Texas Probe into Trump University Dropped Due to Politics
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is trying to silence a former state regulator who says he was ordered in 2010 to drop a fraud investigation into Trump University all for political reasons.
Ken Paxton's office has issued a cease and desist letter to former Deputy Chief of Consumer Protection John Owens. This after Owens was quoted in news reports saying his team had a solid case against the now-presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for scamming students of his namesake real estate seminar.
John Owens boss at the time was Greg Abbott, who is now the state's governor. Spokesman Matt Hirsch said Friday, Governor Abbott did not play a role in the decision to drop the case against the Donald, who three years later gave donations totaling $35,000 to his gubernatorial campaign.
