Texas laws requiring these tests could be on the way out though.

A Houston man is accused of faking 700 vehicle emissions tests by entering the VIN numbers for one car, while hooking up the testing equipment to a different one. Now, the state has hit him with 2 felony counts of "tampering with a government record" and set his bond at $40K!!  ($20K per infraction. A bargain when you consider that they could have charged him with all 700!)

Ironically, there have recently been calls for Texas to end emissions testing and also to stop requiring annual vehicle safety inspections.  How messed up would it be if this guy pays a buttload of money, loses his business and faces any other penalties Texas throws at him; only to have the law he broke done away with shortly after??
