Texas Does Not Have The Most Guns
With all the hunting and sport shooting ops in Texas and our "wild west" spirit, there are plenty of weapons here. We don't have the most though!
Many would figure Texas to be the most heavily armed state. According to CBS news though, that's NOT the case. After averaging the number of weapons listed on the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm's national registry against state populations, here's what they found.
NOTE: This is not an exact indicator as: 1) not all weapons are registered with the ATF and 2) the registry doesn't include all weapons categories.
According to the study, as inaccurate as it may be, the most weapons:
- Are in Wyoming. They have 195.7 guns per every 1,000 residents.
- New Mexico took the #4 spot with 40.5 guns per every 1,000 peeps.
- Arizona tied with West Virginia for #33 with 9.4 guns per 1,000 people.
- Texas was number 18 with 12.8 guns per every 1,000 Texans.
