In response to the shooting in San Bernardino that left 14 dead and 17 more injured, numerous Muslim groups across the U.S. have come together to raise more than $150,000 for the victims.

While the shootings have triggered Islamophobia across the country, with people like Donald Trump demanding we stop allowing Muslims to enter the country, members of numerous Muslim American groups have spoken out against the violence in California and are rallying to raise funds for the shooting's victims.

In a LaunchGood campaign started on Dec. 3, called Muslims United for San Bernardino, a collective of Muslim leaders and groups are combining efforts saying "We wish to respond to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action. Our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: 'Have mercy to those on earth, and the One in the Heavens (God) will have mercy upon you.' And the Quran teaches to 'Repel evil by that which is better' (41:34)."

As of Dec. 9, $158,295 of the groups' $175,000 goal had been reached. To put into perspective the massive impact the American Muslim community is having, a GoFundMe page set up by San Bernadino's mayor has raised $50,406 so far.

In a press release, Tarek El-Messidi, founder of CelebrateMercy, one of the groups backing the fundraiser, said, "This united American Muslim campaign aims to reclaim our faith from extremists by responding to evil with good, by rebuilding what they destroy. We know that no amount of money will bring back the loved ones of the victims' families, but we hope that it at least alleviates some financial burdens in the wake of this tragedy."

Although the fundraiser is a Muslim-led campaign, people of any and all faiths are welcome to contribute. You can donate, or learn more about the campaign on LaunchGood.com.
