A while back, some music companies got together and wanted to create a unique sort of musician's clinic that got away from the traditional clinic approach of some dude noodling around to some pre-recordings, and put together a killer lineup of drummers, guitarists and bass players to create Metal Masters. It was so successful, they've now done four of these things, and it keeps getting better and bigger.
Anthrax has been one of my favorite bands since I was a kid in the 80's, listening to Fistful of Metal, State and Euphoria, and of course, Among the Living. ATL was the album that really launched Anthrax into the music world and solidified their position as one of the Big 4 (the others being Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, of course). Google Play has a cool AudioBiography with Anthrax talking about Among the Living, check it out here.
There have been so many covers of this "Call Me Maybe" song floating around, it's getting really obnoxious. Everyone and their dog has done a cover version. There's even a version out using dialog from the Star Wars movies! So I've gathered some heavy cover versions of some other pop songs that I really like for you to enjoy! I can almost guarantee you that there's at least one you haven't heard.
Here I am, sitting in the control room at KLAQ, playing El Paso's Best Rock, and wondering where I can get me some bath salts. Do you think Bed Bath and Beyond has had a huge run on the stuff this past week? I seem to know a lot of people who wouldn't fight becoming a zombie. (Ask Stephanie the Corporate Computer Babe for her reasoning behind this.)
This so ROCKS! It doesn't paint a room very well...but it ROCKS! What they need are a few more metal heads to cover their whole bodies in paint, then get a mosh working. Still, kudos for originality!
Korn have never exactly been the kind of band that tries to please critics — or, for that matter, anyone else but themselves — so when their tenth studio album, ‘The Path of Totality,’ was greeted with wildly mixed reactions last December, it was pretty much par for the course, albeit with one crucial difference: the new record, which finds the band experimenting with dubstep and electronic textures to a greater degree, was seen by some as a betrayal of their metal roots. As you might expect, the members of Korn see things differently.
I don't know what's going on down under, but Australia has turned out a kick-ass little 8-year-old! Her name is Juliet, she's the son of an Australian produced named Rob Sharpe. They got together and put out this hardcore song about her dog that she loves (Robert) and her stinky pet fish.
Sure, most people know James Durbin as the golden-voiced contestant who dared to bring heavy metal to the ‘American Idol’ stage. But now, instead of impressing Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson, he’s impressing the likes of Judas Priest singer Rob Halford and Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars.
There's a new book out that's a must for that special metal-head in your life!
Heavy Metal Rules!
Ever seen a tattoo that made you go WTF?? Hey ... maybe I should have saved this for tomorrow.......
