The surviving Beastie Boys and the estate of late member Adam Yauch have filed a lawsuit against Monster Energy for the unauthorized use of their music in a new promotional campaign — and as the recently filed will of Yauch makes clear, the group will never agree to license its songs for ads.

Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Friday (May 4) for the first of two sold out shows, and the band took care to dedicate the show to Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who tragically passed away mere miles away in his native New York earlier that day after a three-year bout with cancer.

The 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class will feature three bands that have helped shape rock music over the past 25 years — Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys were all announced as inductees today (Dec. 7). The ceremony will take place April 14 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland.
