Slipknot / Stone Sour Singer Corey Taylor Says Watching Faith No More Perform Changed His Life

Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot is featured in the latest ‘Beacon Moment’ video (watch above). The series asks musicians to relate an experience or series of events that changes the course of a person’s life—toward a life devoted to music.

Taylor’s life-changing experience came when he was 19. He had gone through a bad breakup with a girl and taken a bottle of pills at his grandmother’s house. Luckily his ex-girlfriend’s mother showed up, found him, and called an ambulance to rush him to the hospital where his stomach was pumped. When his grandmother brought him home, he crashed on the couch and turned on the TV, which was tuned to the MTV Video Music Awards.

Faith No More was playing ‘Epic,’ and I had never seen them live before,” Taylor recalls. “It was so awesome and so fun, and they just didn’t give a s–t  about anything. I was mesmerized by that.”

“That moment was when I really figured out that it’s not about what you can give, but what you can get from your music and from your live performances. You can get something as you’re giving. I never felt a moment like that until that moment. It completely turned me around.”

Other recent Beacon Moment videos featured Escape the Fate, Lacuna Coil and Deftones frontman Chino Moreno.

Taylor appeared on last weekend’s episode of ‘‘ with his Stone Sour bandmate Josh Rand. In addition to promoting their ‘House of Gold and Bones’ albums, Taylor related an interesting story about a New Year’s Eve encounter with Meat Loaf:
