A new proposal for Downtown El Paso would limit the use of skateboards and roller skates in certain areas.

This new proposal would restrict people from using skateboards, skates or other devices within certain public areas. These areas include Civic Center Plaza, Arts Festival Plaza, San Jacinto Plaza and more. This would also include areas within 20 feet of any sidewalk cafe.

Roller skates, skateboards and more would not be allowed on roadways except when you are crossing the street. Also, no tricks or stunts could be performed and pedestrians would have the right of way.

The city now wants the public's input on the proposed amendment. There will be three separate meetings the public can attend:

  • Aug. 9 - 5:30 p.m. at the Armijo Branch Library, 620 E. 7th St.
  • Aug. 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the Main Regional Branch Library auditorium, 501 N. Oregon St.
  • Aug 11 - 12 p.m. at the Armijo Branch Library, 620 E. 7th St.
