El Paso Electric is proposing a new rate plan for solar customers and a state Senator doesn't like it.

El Paso Electric customers are charged for energy they use. Solar customers produce more electricity than they use and put the excess energy into the system. EPE then sells it to another customer, giving  and the solar customer a credit on their bill. Simple enough, huh?

EPE's new plan would change that and, according to the El Paso Times, democratic Senator Jose Rodriguez says the new plan makes "solar panels useless to save money" and that:

This is bad for El Paso consumers, and contradicts the intent of Senate Bill 1910, which I passed in 2011 to require EPE to offer net metering. The bill empowered citizens with the freedom to choose solar.

Senator Rodriguez says EBE's proposal eliminates that choice and will "overcharge solar customers, raising some bills more than 200%." What do you think of EPE's proposal?
