Yes, you read that correctly, a secret jail. Thousands have been held there, with no access to legal help and no record of their arrest.

Nearly 6,000 people have been held at Homan Square in Chicago. According to MSN.com, of those 6,000, only 68 were allowed access to attorneys or given the chance to tell anyone where they were. The MSN.com article also said that:

No contemporaneous public record of someone’s presence at Homan Square is known to exist. Nor are any booking records generated at Homan Square.

The facility is an old warehouse, that's heavily guarded and, apparently, doesn't have any known phone number. Homan Square apparently also:

does not "generate public records of someone’s detention there, permitting police to effectively hide detainees from their attorneys.

This is way scary because, if they're doing it there, they're probably doing it elsewhere. I wonder how many more "Homan's" exist? As one Chicago lawyer said, "if this could happen to someone, it could happen to anyone”. Pretty creepy, huh?
