I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan and loved Ian McKellen in the role of Gandalf. But did you know Sean Connery was offered the role first? And a WHOLE lot of money. His reason for saying no is surprising.

Sean Connery was first offered the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and some amazing perks from New Line Cinema. For him playing that role, New Line was going to offer him 15% of worldwide box office receipts. It would have given a HUGE payout- over 400 million dollars.

Why did he say no? Connery had never read the books and said he "did not understand" them. So because of that, he didn't want to spend 18 months filming the trilogy.

Worst. Decision. Ever.
