The last time we heard anything new from Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, he was walking around in a winter wonderland on his holiday disc ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.’  He now returns to his rock roots with a new song penned for the soundtrack for the upcoming summer blockbuster movie ‘The Avengers.’

Spinner premiered the new song called ‘Breathe’ today. Starting off with an STP groove the song sinks into a sweeping chorus fit for superheros. Weiland’s vocals soar in the chorus, singing out, “Now I’ve said what I wanted / Could have lost and never had it / Now I’m free from my bondage / Without you I would be nothing.” While up-tempo throughout, the song does have a bit of a power-ballad feel to it, perfect for a summertime flick.

Scott Weiland isn’t the only rocker contributing to the disc though. The star-studded soundtrack titled ‘Avengers Assemble’ also features the first new song from Soundgarden in over 15 years in addition to contributions from Shinedown, Black Veil Brides, Bush and Evanescence — just to name a few.

‘The Avengers’ movie will be in theaters on May 4, while the soundtrack is due out on May 1.
