South By Southwest is typically a launching board for a band's career, but for Screeching Weasel, it may be the site of the group's undoing.  Band members Dan Schafer, Drew Fredrichsen, Justin Perkins, and Adam Cargin have resigned from the group for the time being after singer Ben Weasel threw punches at two female audience members during the band's performance in Austin.  The four members issued a statement offering their apologies to their label, management, fans, the venue, and anyone else impacted by the incident.  They also added that they felt their singer's actions were, quote, "shameful and embarrassing" and they've come to the conclusion that they, quote, "will not likely be able to muster the dignity to attempt a live performance as Screeching Weasel in the foreseeable future."

The group members say they will re-evaluate their involvement as time moves on if they are given the opportunity, but understand if their vocalist pushes on without them.  They add, quote, "As friends and bandmates, we are absolutely positive that Ben regrets his actions last Friday night.  We have no doubt that his apology is sincere and that if he could take it all back, he would.  We don't wish to place any more hardship upon him with our decision to discontinue our involvement at this time, but it is something that cannot be avoided."
