Police Investigate Another Freeway Shooting Incident

El Paso police are looking into a shooting incident on U.S. 54 that left one man wounded. The shooting in the area of U.S. 54 and Hondo Pass left the victim in critical condition last night. It's the second shooting on the highway this month. On Aug. 10th, shots were fired from one car to another in what police term a gang-related incident.

El Paso Abortion Clinic May Reopen After Federal Order

An El Paso abortion clinic may reopen soon, though the state has yet to issue a license for it to do so. National attention is being focused on El Paso Reproductive Services, which would become the only abortion clinic operating in Texas if it does reopen. A federal judge recently ordered the Department of State Health Services to "cease and desist" enforcing tough requirements for abortion clinics that turned them into ambulatory surgical centers. However, the state has yet to move on issuing an operating license and so the clinic remains closed.

Son Of Fugitive LAPD Officer Gets Probation For Lying To FBI

The man who lied to FBI agents in an attempt to protect his fugitive son will spend the next three years on probation. Victor Manuel Solis was also ordered by a federal judge to pay a $1,000 fine during his sentencing yesterday. Solis was convicted of providing false statements to the FBI concerning the location of his son, Henry. Henry Solis is a former Los Angeles police officer who fled from California after a fatal shooting. Victor Solis accompanied his son into Mexico from El Paso, but told investigators he dropped his son at a bus station and did not know where he was.

El Paso Named Resilience AmeriCorps City

El Paso is one of 10 cities nationwide that will take part in a pilot program designed to help communities bounce back from weather disasters. By being named a Resilience AmeriCorps city, El Paso will get $25,000 and be sent volunteers to help rally people to aid in recovering from the extreme weather. El Paso was selected because of challenges faced by people who live in an area that faces flooding and extreme variations in high and low temperatures. AmeriCorps volunteers will mainly target people in low-income neighborhoods prone to flooding.

Money Cabinets Fall Out Of Brinks Truck In El Paso

Drivers in El Paso may never know how close they came to being showered with money Thursday morning. According to police, a Brinks truck was traveling down Gateway Boulevard East when the weight of its cargo shifted, sending it bursting out the back door. The cargo inside the truck was heavy cabinets stuffed with money, which tumbled into the roadway. However, unlike in the movies, both cabinets remained shut and Brinks soon sent another truck to reclaim the cabinets.
