Authorities are releasing the identity of a man shot and killed by police in Las Cruces. Police say 34-year-old Michael Malone died Wednesday afternoon in a motel alley. Police say officers were serving a high-risk warrant for Malone's arrest Wednesday at the Days End Motel on Valley Drive when Malone allegedly escaped out a window and into an alleyway, where police eventually shot and killed him following a brief confrontation. Malone was wanted in connection to domestic violence.

Human Smuggling Ring Connected To Cartel Busted Up

Federal authorities believe they've busted up a human smuggling ring connected to a Mexican drug cartel. ICE Special Agent in Charge James Spero tells KENS 5 agents took 25 people into custody yesterday along with $187,000 dollars in cash. The suspected ringleader is Jaime Jaramillio Hernandez from San Antonio. ICE believes the human smuggling gang is connected to the Zetas.

DPS Still Working On Rape Kit Testing

The Texas Department of Public Safety is still working on testing thousands of rape kits. Some of them are over 10 years old. Police tell KSAT some kits were not submitted because an arrest had already been made. The testings should be finished by the end of next year.
