Police Hunt For A Stabbing Suspect

El Paso Police are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect wanted for stabbing a man on the 4000 block of Lackland.  The suspect is identified as 24-year-old Sergio Escamilla who allegedly stabbed 23-year-old Alfredo Carmon during a fight.  The victim has been hospitalized in critical condition.  Police say you should contact Crime Stoppers if you have information about Escamilla.

City Offers Free Cab Rides For Drunk Drivers

City officials have announced plans to expand El Paso's NO DUI program.  The city has worked out a deal with Sun City Cab and Sun Metro to provide free rides home to people who think they're too drunk to drive.  Officials hope the NO DUI program will cut down DUI arrests that average more than 200 a month in El Paso County.

Senate Moves To End Renewable Energy Programs

The state Senate has approved a bill that would terminate two renewable energy programs in Texas.  Republican Horseshoe Bay says his bill essentially declares "mission accomplished," because Texas has already reached its renewable energy goals.  He says renewable energy in the Lone Star state no longer needs governmental assistance.  However, environmentalists say the bill is a blow to the industry.

Senate Approves 211-Billion-Dollar Budget

The Texas Senate has approved a 211-billion-dollar budget that includes nearly four-point-five-billion-dollars in tax cuts.  The budget plan also calls for almost a five-percent increase in spending next year with much of the extra money going to public schools, border security and state employee retirement funds.  Officials say they can cut taxes and increase spending because the strong economy in Texas is generating more tax revenue.

City Announces Another Delay For San Jacinto Plaza

The city has announced yet another delay in the restoration project at San Jacinto Plaza.  El Paso city spokesman Martin Bartlett says the project will continue at least through May 10th.  Work on the six-million-dollar project began in February of last year and was originally scheduled for completion last November.  Bartlett says the restoration project also was delayed in February of this year.  The city has not released a new completion deadline.

TxDOT Opens New I-10 Interchange

Your daily commute through East El Paso just got a little easier.  Following months of construction, the Department of Transportation has finally opened the ramps from Interstate ten to Loop 375.  The new ramps and overpasses have been officially named after Officer David Garcia, who was killed while removing debris from the highway three years ago.  However, many drivers may refer to the interchange as the "New Spaghetti Bowl."
