Ok, well not ONLY accepts .... but bustin' out with the espanol can get you a free one!!

The Pizza Patron chain is giving away free pizzas June 5th; IF you order it in spanish.  Pizza Patron expects to give away about 80,000 pizzas that day in an effort to get people to try their product.  A simple spin on the old "free sample" bit right??

Not everyone sees it that way ... some people (on both sides of the language issue) are kinda pissed about it!

One conservative group (The Conservative Caucas) doesn't like it.  Chairman Peter Thomas says;

"It seems to punish people who can't speak Spanish, and I resent that".

Now, before all the pro-spanish speakers start getting revved up; there are some on that side of the issue that don't like this either!

Marcela Gomez, president of Hispanic Marketing Group (a Latino marketing firm) says

"Maybe they thought it was a cute thing to do, but I think it's discrimination"As an advertising agency, I would never recommend this to my client."

Andrew Gamm, Brand Director at Pizza Patron says

"it's all about creating a buzz".

Pizza Patron has done controversial promo bits before, such as when they announced they would accept pesos at all their locations.

Sooooooo ... as we come up on an election that will most certainly be affected by issues tied to immigration, language and border issues of all sorts; what do you guys here in the El Chuco area think.

Is this that big of a freakin' deal??

Do you think they timed this (manufactured this??) to draw more attention to hispanic relations in America as the country gets ready to elect new leaders??

All I know is lunch is on the Pizza Patron vatos that day!!    (If I ask for it in German, do you think they'll throw in a free cerveza??)
