El Paso Teen Dies In Colorado Crash

The body of an El Paso teenager who disappeared last week has been found in western Colorado.  The Colorado State Patrol reports 18-year-old Edgar Vargas died when his truck crashed down a steep mountainside on Red Mountain Pass.  The victim was apparently on his way to a friend's prom in Colorado when he disappeared.  He was a senior at Chapin High School in El Paso.

Baby's Condition Is Unknown Following Pool Accident

There's no word yet on the fate of a one-year-old baby boy who's been rushed to the hospital after falling into a swimming pool last night.  It happened around six o'clock on the 14-hundred block of Byway in East El Paso.  Paramedics say the boy was unresponsive as he was rushed to University Medical Center.

Senate Considers Cuts To Veterans College Benefits

The state Senate is considering a bill that would slash college benefits for Texas veterans and their children.  Senator Brian Birdwell says his bill would cut tuition exemptions for veterans and their children which have soared in recent years.  Opponents, like Democrat Jose Menendez of San Antonio, say veterans will feel betrayed if the bill becomes law.

Bataan Death March Survivor Is Laid To Rest

The oldest survivor of the Bataan Death March in El Paso has been buried with full military honors.  Harry Steen Senior was 97-years-old when he died last weekend.  He was buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetary yesterday.  His widow says Steen weighed 175 pounds when he was captured by the Japanese in 1942, but only weighed 80 pounds when he was released three years later.

Tornillo Residents Cope With Water Outage

It'll take at least one more day before water service can be restored to approximately 35-hundred residents of Tornillo.  Francelia Vega with the Tornillo Water District says residents of the small town have been without water since Tuesday.  She says residents in Tornillo who still have running water should continue to boil it until further notice.

Pedestrian Dies Following Accident

Police say charges may still be filed in the death of an out-of-state man who was hit by a car last weekend on the 48-hundred block of Dyer.  The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Andrew Carlisle of Colorado who died yesterday.  He's the fourth pedestrian who's been killed on the streets of El Paso this year.
