Please don't tell me racism is dead! This just happened a few miles outside of Enid. A little town called Lahoma. And to make matters worse, one of them was the mayor of Lahoma's husband! The mayors HUSBAND!

I'm going to assume he's in the dog house for a long time after this.

Lahoma is a small town in Oklahoma with an under-1,000 population. Well, 611 in the 2010 census -- so, well under 1,000. The mayor of this tiny town is now apologizing for a Halloween prank that her husband was involved in.

On Saturday night, police were called after a woman saw men dressed in KKK robes around a bonfire with a cross. One of the hooded men was Cary Kent Sharp, husband of Lahoma mayor Theresa Sharp.

Lahoma residents are outraged that the mayor's husband was involved in such a tasteless joke. Mayor Sharp said it was "a prank gone bad," and added that she was nowhere near her house when the prank happened.

She told the Enid News,

“I was out trick-or-treating with my son, and I in no way support the activities that occurred."

Her husband Cary Sharp said it was a joke and that no harm was meant.

“This is ridiculous, really. It was a Halloween night.”

The Garfield County Deputy Aaron Moore said that the men  weren't technically breaking any laws, and just asked that they not burn crosses. Cary Sharp, however, said that they weren't burning crosses at all.

“There was no cross that burned. It was held behind the fire to look like it was burning, but there was no fire. The pictures we’ve seen claimed they were burning one, but there was not one burnt.”

Sheriff Jerry Niles told Enid News the alleged prank was "unacceptable," and "a poor decision." He did explain why no arrests were made, since many on social media were saying that Cary Sharp should have been arrested. Read the full statement on their Facebook page.
