Everyone should be properly trained in the safe and proper handling of firearms. With the police, I always thought it was pretty much mandatory. The video tells the story but, just in case you like to read, this is Officer Darryl Jouett.

Officer Jouett is a 25-year veteran of the Erlanger Kentucky Police Department who, in all those years, apparently never made it to any of the gun safety lectures.

As he was trying to adjust his weapon and holster, the pistol went off.  The bullet ricocheted off the elevator wall and struck Jouett in the stomach.  He was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The elevator is also expected to make a full recovery.
