The excitement in Northeast El Paso over the new splash park has been big. Then, this happened.

The huge number of visitors to Sue Young Park in Northeast El Paso overwhelmed the chlorine monitoring system and caused multiple shutdowns. Interim director of El Paso's quality of life department, Dionne Mack, told KFOX TV:

“We have a maintenance schedule that you have one day of the week that you typically have a closure or an abbreviated day. That assumption is that you have hundreds of people using it rather than thousands, and so what our plan is we were expected to at least have that done after a week of use, but obviously because of the amount of use that we are having, we are needing to have that schedule accelerated.”

Good news though, crews solved the problem by completely draining the water tanks Tuesday night! Officials also believe that once other planned water parks open, demand on the Northeast one will ease.
