Fire At Elementary School Leaves 50-Thousand In Damages

Students of an El Paso elementary school are staying home today following a fire yesterday's afternoon.  Fire officials said the fire at Lamar Elementary started in a classroom after classes and all after-school activities had concluded.  More than ten units and more than 30 fire personnel responded to the blaze.  About 50-thousand in damages was reported.

A man suspected of killing a truck driver following a traffic accident on January is the subject of El Paso County sheriff's Manhunt Monday.  Uriel Anchondo,  is wanted on a charge of an accident causing a death.  He was allegedly speeding when he lost control of his car and crossed into the path of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10.  The driver of the truck attempted to avoid Anchondo's vehicle but also lost control and rolled over.  Anyone with information on the suspect may call Crime Stoppers of El Paso.

Passenger Traffic Decreases At El Paso International Airport

Passenger traffic at El Paso International Airport decreased in February.  Data released yesterday shows the airport handled more than 177-thousand passengers last month, a decrease of eight-point-three percent from January.  The number represents an increase of 13-point-five percent from last year.

Fire Crash Kills Mesilla Park Elderly Man

A 75-year-old Mesilla Park man is dead following in a fiery crash on Sunday.  New Mexico State Police said the crash occurred just southeast of Las Cruces on Interstate 10, near mile marker 147.  According to police, the victim, Lincoln Michaud, was driving southbound on Frontage Road 1037 when his vehicle left the roadway, hit a communication tower head-on and caught fire.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Texas Remembers Selena's 20th Death Anniversary

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Tejano pop star Selena.  At the height of her career, Selena, known as the "Queen of Tejano" music, was shot and killed by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar, in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 31st, 1995.  She was just 23-years-old.  Selena performed several times in El Paso, including her last concert in the Sun City on August 1994 at the County Coliseum.
