New Music Releases – October 18, 2011
Something I'm always searching for is when certain new releases are coming out. I tend to buy more music than is good for me. It's my addiction, and I'm not even looking to go into rehab for this.
I like my music, and listen all the time.
If you're like that, then this should be helpful for you. I'll try to keep posting these every week so you can see what's coming out.
If possible, I'll also pick one of the releases and talk about it.
This week is Evile's “Five Serpents Teeth”.
I've had this in my car's CD player for a few weeks now, and it's a great CD. I discovered these guys a few years ago and have been listening to Enter The Grave and Infected Nations quite a lot.
Great band, really good thrash metal with great songs. I love “Enter The Grave”, “Bathe in Blood” and “We Who Are About To Die” from Enter The Grave. Great first album, they sound very raw and vocally a little more Slayerish with some Dave Padden from Annihilator, mixed with a little young James Hetfield.
Their second release “Infected Nations” was a nice step forward for these guys, and their sound is more polised, still tight as hell, with some really intense and complex riffing. I really like “Genocide”, “Plague to End All Plagues” and “Devoid of Thought” on this one (and the Japanese version of “Time No More” that's not on this, but I have).
The new album Five Serpents Teeth features more great songwriting, heavy riffs and lots of tempos. Not everything is a million miles an hour, but there's still a lot of great thrash on here. I really love Matt Drake's vocal style on this. Still thrashy and aggressive, but with more actual singing of notes. Sounds fantastic. Check out “Cult”, “Five Serpents Teeth” and “Long Live the New Flesh”.
If you like old school thrash, you'll love this band!
I'm looking forward to picking up the Cradle of Filth “Evermore Darkly” and the latest Iced Earth “Dystopia” this week.
Enjoy!
