It seemed only fitting that at this year’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards, members of SlipknotCorey Taylor, Sid Wilson and M. Shawn Crahan – would be on hand to present the award in the brand new Paul Gray Best Bassist category. The award was named in honor of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray who died in May 2010 from a drug overdose.

When Loudwire caught up with Taylor and Crahan before the event on the black carpet, they told us what having this category for Gray means to them personally.

Obviously holding a lot of weight for the band, Taylor expressed his feelings about the award, “It means a lot to us and it means a lot to us because we know it would mean a lot to Paul. He was so proud of this band, proud of what he did and proud of his accomplishments.”

Taylor continued, saying, “For them to put his name on this – which to me is honestly a really overlooked position in the band, a good bass player locks it down – so for Pauly to have his name on that is just wonderful.”

Crahan then weighed in, explaining, “Also when I think about my brother, when we started the band the one thing he loved more than anything besides obviously his mom, his family – he loved it when we [Slipknot] were together.”

Crahan explained, “Unfortunately everybody is where they’re at in the world and we can’t have everybody here because there’s all these different situations. But I look at my two brothers [Taylor and Wilson] and even over the award he would just be happy we’re together and that he brought us together and that he’s here.”

The very first Paul Gray Best Bassist award went to Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx later that evening while Taylor, Crahan and Wilson accepted the Comeback of the Year award for Slipknot.
