An incredibly touching moment between a father and his daughter's was caught by CBS4Local, Thursday morning. Gunnery Sergeant Hector Vargas surprised his daughters at Frank Macias Elementary School during their Memorial Day assignment.

The class assignment had the students write an essay about their personal hero and then read it aloud to the class. After Kayley and Breehana Tarango read their papers, their dad surprised them by emerging from the back of the library.

Vargas has been serving in Japan for more than a year and with help from his wife, they were able to arrange this great surprise. Unfortunately, the plan didn't go as smooth as Vargas wanted as he did face some airline delays but says it helped build anticipation to the big moment. Vargas would also like to dedicate this reunion to those service members who might not get the same opportunity.
